Vladimir Michailowitsch Jurowski (composer)

Wladimir Michailowitsch Jurowski (also: Vladimir Mikhailovich Yurovsky, Russian: Владимир Михайлович Юровский; * March 7 / March 20, 1915 in Tarashcha ; † January 26, 1972 in Moscow ) was a Ukrainian-Soviet film music composer.

Life

Jurowski was the offspring of a Jewish family, his father worked as a photographer and left him with a cycle of important historical photographs of Tarashcha.

At the age of 11 he began performing as a pianist. He studied at the Kiev Music College and at the same time worked as a teacher, then as an assistant to the conductor at the Kiev Opera . In 1938 he graduated from the Moscow State Conservatory in the class of Nikolai Yakovlevich Myaskovsky .

Jurowski was married to the daughter of Dawid Semjonowitsch Blok , the conductor, organizer, and first director of the National Orchestra for Cinematography of the USSR and a member of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee .

A number of well-known conductors emerged from the family of musicians: their son is the conductor Michail Jurowski , who often worked in the GDR , his grandchildren are the conductors Wladimir Jurowski (* 1972, whose name is in turn Wladimir Michailowitsch Jurowski) and Dmitri Jurowski (* 1979).
