Wladislaw Andrejewitsch Solotarjow ( Russian : Владислав Андреевич Золотарёв, born September 13, 1942 in De-Kastri near Komsomolsk on the Amur ; † May 13, 1975 in Moscow ) was a Soviet composer and bayan player.

Life

Zolotaryov was born in the Far East . When he was eleven, his father gave him a bayan, which immediately aroused his enthusiasm. He began to play and improvise independently by ear. In 1958 he moved with his family to Magadan , where he spent most of his life. In 1961 he began to compose - without professional guidance. In 1960 he became a student at the music school in Magadan, from 1963 to 1966 he served in the Red Army .

From 1969 to 1970 he worked as a teacher for bayan in Prowidenija on the Chukchi Peninsula and then taught again in Magadan. There he married the director of the music school in 1970 and moved with her to Moscow , where he perfected his composition technique in 1971/72 with Tikhon Khrennikov at the Moscow Conservatory , but also taught himself. The composer and pianist Nicolas Economou is one of his students .

Solotaryov suffered from severe depression all his life and voluntarily passed away at the age of 32 by hanging himself.

He is considered to be the founder of modern music for bayan and played a key role in ensuring that the instrument, which was originally used almost exclusively in folklore, was heard in concert halls. The composer Sofia Gubaidulina said of Solotaryov's music that it had a “penetrating tone that will be remembered for a lifetime”.

In addition to his compositions, he left behind a rich literary work: the lyrical self-confession of 25 letters never sent , a volume with aphorisms, song texts and romances, an autobiography and diaries covering the period from 1961 until his death. He also published several essays on the art of playing bayan.
