The Wohlen-Bremgarten-Bahn (WB) ( actually: Wohlen-Bremgarten) was a standard gauge railway company in Switzerland . It ran on the 7.01 km long route between the two villages of Wohlen and Bremgarten in the canton of Aargau .

history

The line was built primarily as a branch line of the Aargau Southern Railway. The two Südbahn owners, SCB and NOB, also had ulterior motives, as this prevented the planned Reuss Valley Railway. Since the city of Bremgarten could also be connected to the Swiss railway network in this way, it ceased to be a donor to the Reuss Valley Railway. Therefore, in addition to the city of Bremgarten, the two railway companies were also shareholders, although it was clear from the start that the route would hardly generate any returns. Subsequently, it never yielded any returns, and the company was always in deficit until it was taken over by SBB.

The line was opened on September 1, 1876; it branched off in Wohlen from the Aargau Southern Railway (ASB). At that time there was already a close relationship with the Swiss Central Railway (SCB), which owned a share in ASB. So the two tank locomotives WB 3/3 were ordered from her. From 1883 onwards, the SCB handled the entire operation itself and also took over all of the rolling stock. A change of hands on the route itself did not take place until 1902, when it came into the possession of the newly founded Swiss Federal Railways (SBB).

In 1910 the Bremgarten-Dietikon-Bahn (BD) signed a lease agreement with the SBB for the Wohlen-Bremgarten-Bahn line. They electrified the line and equipped it with a three- rail track for meter and standard gauge. On February 8, 1912, the BD began continuous operation with narrow-gauge train compositions between Wohlen and Dietikon . The standard gauge rail was dismantled in summer 2016.
