The Klingelholl residential courtyard is a housing estate in the Barmen district of the Bergisch city of Wuppertal in North Rhine-Westphalia .
Building description
The Klingelholl residential courtyard is located in the Barmen district in the Sedansberg residential area and consists of three U-shaped buildings.
The three sides of the courtyard form the Bürgerallee 2, 4 and 6 apartment blocks in the west, the Klingelholl apartment blocks 41, 43 and 45 in the north, and the Klingelholl 47, 49 and 51 apartment blocks in the east. The apartment blocks are each designed on three floors with a hipped roof , the third floor is set off with a cornice.
The three-wing complex encloses a terraced green area that opens to the south to the street Klingelholl . The rear wing of the building is accessed with a staircase. This led to criticism at the time of its creation, as it was warned that building materials were wasted. The side wings will of the citizens Avenue and one from Klingelholl shielded with a Torüberbauung cul developed.
The plastered facade used to have an earthy-orange hue that contrasted with the red of the brick portal panels and decorative niches and the white lattice windows. Today the facade is gray. The housing estate was built between 1921 and 1922 by the Barmen building department according to a uniform overall design that is typical for non-profit housing complexes of the 1920s.
On August 27, 1996, the residential courtyard was recognized as a historical monument and the buildings Bürgerallee 2, 4 and 6 as well as Klingelholl 41, 43, 45, 47, 49 and 51 were entered in the monument list of the city of Wuppertal under a monument number . In addition to the buildings, the protected position also extends to the staircases and pathways in the green area, terraces and boundary walls as well as the front garden on Bürgerallee.
