Wolf-Eike Kuntsche (born July 4, 1941 in Berlin ) is a German sculptor and medalist .

Live and act

Kuntsche graduated in 1955 trained as a sculptor and worked in the learned profession until 1961. Then he studied until 1966 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden at Walter Arnold , Hans Steger and Gerd Jaeger . Until 1969 he took an apprenticeship with Walter Arnold and worked from 1969-1975 as his assistant. Kuntsche has been a freelance sculptor since 1976.

In 1980, 1984 and 1986 he was a participant and laureate of the International Symposia for Medallic Art and Small Sculpture in Nyiregyháza (Hungary), was awarded the Grand Prix for Sculpture at the VIII International Biennale of Humor and Satire in Grabovo (Bulgaria) in 1987 and won in 1988 the first national medal competition in the GDR on the subject of "nature and the environment". In 1989, Kuntsche won the »Citizen's Prize« at the IV Small Sculpture Triennial in Fellbach.

Wolf-Eike Kuntsche created the sculpture “Völkerfreundschaft” on Prager Strasse in 1986 , in 1987 the Erich Kästner memorial on the north side of Albertplatz and in 1990 the Caspar David Friedrich memorial in Brühl's garden . In the inner courtyard of the Dresden Hotel Bellevue on the Neustädter Elbufer stands the sculpture "The Körner Family and their Circle in Dresden" created by Kuntsche from 1985 to 1987 at the approximate location of the former Körner residential building. The bronze still life is reminiscent of the Dresden artist family. It stands on a granite base and is surrounded by a cube-shaped steel frame with an edge length of 80 centimeters. The entire work of art is 2.5 meters high.

He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony .

Kuntsche came to Radebeul in 1976 with the painter and graphic artist Bärbel Kuntsche , whom he had met at the art college and who later became his wife , where they both work as freelance artists to this day.

In 2004, Kuntsche was awarded the art prize of the large district town of Radebeul .
