Ernst Johann Groth (born August 15, 1859 in Lauenburg in Pomerania , † August 13, 1936 in Leipzig ) was a German writer, educator and school director. From 1898 he was co-editor of the magazine Die Grenzboten .

Life

Ernst Johann Groth was born on August 15, 1859 in Lauenburg in Pomerania . He studied history and modern languages ​​at the universities in Greifswald , Berlin and Paris . In 1883 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. Groth took up the profession of teacher. He first worked as a teacher in his hometown of Lauenburg, then from 1885 at the teachers' seminar in Gdansk . In 1891 he became senior teacher at the municipal high school for girls in Leipzig, in 1901 professor there and in 1907 senior director of studies at the high school for girls at today's Gaudigplatz, which was later renamed the Goethe School. He died in Leipzig in 1936 and was buried in the city's southern cemetery.

As a writer, Groth published short stories, short stories and “dramatic images of culture”. From 1888 Groth worked on the national-liberal magazine Die Grenzbote , in 1898 he became its editor together with Johann Grunow .
