The large district town of Radebeul awards the art prize of the large district town of Radebeul annually to one or two artists, ensembles or art sponsors or art organizers with recognized effects in the following genres:

In doing so, "[the] people or ensembles [...] to be honored must have their life or creative focus in Radebeul or be the creators or promoters of works that are of artistic importance for Radebeul". The award serves to “maintain and promote the achievements of contemporary art” in a region which, as Lößnitz , has been the home and activity of numerous artists for centuries.

The prize, which has been awarded since 1998, consists of a bronze sculpture by the Radebeul and Jena-based sculptor Gabriele Reinemer with a certificate, accompanied by a grant of 2,500 euros. It was awarded annually between 1998 and 2013 (with one exception) by the Lord Mayor of Radebeul. The forerunner was an urban art prize that was awarded in irregular succession during the GDR era.

In 2012, the jury decided to suspend the award because, in their opinion, a free, uninfluenced and injury-free selection was no longer possible and damage to the award, the award winners and candidates should be averted. The reason given was that one of the possible award winners had been made public in spring 2012.
