Wolfgang Arps

Wolfgang Arps (born February 23, 1926 in Hamburg ; † May 11, 2001 in Wildbad Kreuth ) was a German actor .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1944, Arps attended the drama school of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus and the drama school of Helmuth Gmelin . He began his theater career in 1946/47 with guest performances at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus and the Theater Junge Bühne in Hamburg.

In 1947/48 he played at the Stadttheater Lüneburg , 1948/49 at the Theater im Zimmer and from 1949 to 1955 at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus. Roles there were Mortimer in Maria Stuart , Hartmann in The Devil's General , Orlando in As You Like It and Armand Duval in a stage version of The Lady of the Camellias .

In 1955/56 he was engaged at the State Theater in Stuttgart , where he played the Templar in Nathan the Wise . As a youthful hero he came to the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus in 1956 , where he was a member for over 40 years and played in more than 200 roles. He embodied Carlos in Clavigo , Karl Moor in The Robbers , Brutus in Julius Caesar , Wetter vom Strahl in Das Käthchen von Heilbronn , the prosecutor in In the Case J. Robert Oppenheimer , Professor in Uncle Wanja , Hassenreuter in Die Ratten , Alonso in Der Sturm (1989), Walter in Der Zerbrochne Krug (1990), Semjon in Gorkis Sommergäste (1993) and the Patriarch of Jerusalem in Nathan the Wise (1996).

Arps was rarely seen on television. In 1968 he became a senior physician, Dr. Petersen known in the television series Hafenkrankenhaus . He is buried in the Düsseldorf North Cemetery .
