Wolfgang Büchele (born August 11, 1959 in Geislingen an der Steige ) is a German chemist and manager. He was CEO of Linde AG from 2014 to 2016 and took over as CEO of Exyte AG (formerly M + W Group) in March 2017 .

Career

Büchele initially trained as a bricklayer (his father had a small construction company). He studied chemistry from 1979 to 1984 at Ulm University and graduated with a diploma. After that he was an assistant in Ulm until 1987 and received his doctorate in inorganic chemistry (dissertation: cultivation of single-crystalline chromates from silica gels and investigation of the influence of external magnetic fields on nucleation ). From 1987 he was initially in catalyst research at BASF and from 1990 in managerial positions in Ludwigshafen and in China (Hong Kong) and is considered a China expert. In 2001 he became chairman of the Eastern Europe, Africa and West Asia region, in 2003 head of the Performance Chemicals division (industrial applications) and a member of the plant management in Ludwigshafen, and in 2005 head of the fine chemicals division . He was supposed to be promoted to the board and was a close confidante of the board chairman Jürgen Hambrecht . When that failed, he went to London in 2008 as a project manager for the financial services provider Blackstone . From 2009 to 2011, through the financial investor Permira, he was CEO of BorsodChem in Budapest , which was soon taken over by the Chinese, and from 2012 to 2014 CEO and President of the Finnish company Kemira , a specialist in water chemicals. Since 2014 he has been CEO of Linde AG as successor to Wolfgang Reitzle . On December 7, 2016, he resigned from his position with immediate effect. On March 1, 2017, he was appointed CEO of the German plant engineering company M + W Group , which he renamed Exyte AG after a reorganization and which is planning an IPO.

  • Büchele has been on the Supervisory Board since 2009 and has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Merck KGaA and a member of the Board of Partners of E. Merck KG since 2014
  • Büchele was chairman of the Eastern Committee of German Business from January 1, 2016 to September 23, 2019 and then a member of the executive committee. In the Eastern Committee he was particularly committed to economic relations with Russia.
