Wolfgang Burger (* 3. October 1952 in Oberwihl ) is a German engineer and writer of detective novels .

life and work

Burger grew up in Bad Säckingen and studied electrical engineering and medical technology in Karlsruhe . In 1993 he received his doctorate and until 2015, Burger headed a research department at the Institute for Product Development at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology . He has been writing crime novels since 1995. He lives alternately in Karlsruhe and Regensburg and is married to crime writer Hilde Artmeier . Burger has three daughters.

The majority of his crime novels have crime scenes in the northern Baden cities of Karlsruhe and Heidelberg and can be classified as regional crime novels - although the author himself does not appreciate this categorization very much. The main character and first-person narrator of the Heidelberg crime series is chief detective Alexander Gerlach. The man in his mid-forties is the head of the Heidelberg Criminal Police , a friend of jazz and women, widowed and father of teenage twin daughters. In addition to the often subtly constructed plot, the relationship with the two daughters, the romantic affair with his lover Theresa, as well as the relationship with his subordinate colleagues Sven Balke and Klara Vangelis, as well as his secretary Sonja "Sönnchen" Walldorf, are the focus of the novels. The novel Echo of a Night recalls the case of the missing Madelaine McCann in many details .
