Wolfgang Christoph Dessler
Wolfgang Christoph Deßler (born February 11, 1660 in Nuremberg ; † March 11, 1722 there ) was a German poet and vice-principal.
Life
The son of a jeweler studied theology at the University of Altdorf . After dropping out of his studies, he returned to Nuremberg and through his friendship with Erasmus Finx acquired a basic knowledge of poetry. From 1705 he worked as vice principal of the School of the Holy Spirit in Nuremberg.
Over 100 songs come from his pen, including a. a. the evangelical hymn How happy I am, O friend of souls .
