PhD thesis

In 1994 he received his doctorate at the comprehensive college / University of Kassel on the subject of local politics in a community: a study using the example of Breuna . In 2014, a suspicion of plagiarism became known. In 2015, the doctoral committee of the social sciences department at the University of Kassel, after a corresponding examination with the assistance of external experts, decided to revoke Dippel's doctorate because the allegation of plagiarism was justified. "I will wait for the decision and the reasons and - as of today - lodge an objection," Dippel said. At the beginning of 2016, he confirmed that the proceedings had not yet been completed due to his objection. The University of Kassel announced that there was "no further development in the case".

The Kassel Administrative Court, before which Dippel sued, ruled in May 2018 that Dippel could not be accused of deceit and that the wrong body had decided on the withdrawal. The academic degree was wrongly withdrawn from Dippel. In the proceedings, Dippel relied on the fact that "the criticism of his scientific work was known to the examination board before the doctorate was awarded."
