Robert Gührer (born February 27, 1963 in Tettnang ; † October 2, 2004 there ) was a German motorcycle track racer .

Life

Gührer started his career in 1981 with the B license solo at MSC Langnau and celebrated his breakthrough with series victories in this class in 1984. In 1985 he was promoted to the international class, celebrated series victories in a row in his first licensing year and broke several lap and track records. As early as 1985 he beat all the great drivers on the track racing scene, such as Egon Müller , Karl Maier , Simon Wigg , Georg Hack and others. He was able to celebrate such a successful debut as Egon Müller did in the early 1970s. Among driver colleagues, fans, organizers and sports journalists, he was quickly considered the so-called "coming long-track world champion". In 1986 he only lost the almost certain long-course DM title in the decisive play-off against Klaus Lausch .

In May 1987 he had an accident in Werlte, Emsland, when he attacked the track record so badly that he was flown to the hospital in a rescue helicopter and was in a coma for weeks . His career was interrupted until he took part in grass track races again as a sidecar driver in 1991. He ended his career after just one season.

Gührer died on October 2, 2004 after suffering from pancreatic cancer .
