Karl Maier (born August 24, 1957 in Erding ) is a former German motorcycle track racer who drove long-distance races on grass and sand tracks, as well as speedway races.

Career

Maier began his career in 1975 and first drew attention to himself in 1977 at the long-track DM final in Bielefeld, where he took 3rd place. In 1978 Maier qualified for the first time for the long-course World Championship final in Mühldorf am Inn and immediately finished seventh and fought for the German Speedway Team Championship with AC Landshut. Karl Maier was four times long track world champion: 1980, 1982, 1987 and 1988. He was also five times in the speedway individual world championship finals: 1983 in Norden (8 points, 8th place), 1984 in Gothenburg (9 points, 7th place) . Place), 1985 in Bradford (1 point, 16th place), 1986 in Chorzów (3 points, 13th place) and 1989 in Munich (5 points, 11th place).

Karl Maier also took part in the Pairs World Championship and the Team World Championship several times and won the bronze medal at the Team World Championship in 1982. He has also been the German long track champion and German speedway team champion several times. In the German Speedway Bundesliga, Karl Maier started primarily for AC Landshut , but also briefly for MSC Olching towards the end of his career . Karl Maier was also active in the best and strongest professional speedway league in the world at the time in England: from 1979 to 1980 for the Belle Vue Aces in Manchester and in 1983 for the Birmingham Brummies. In 1997, Karl Maier ended his racing career.

Private

Karl Maier is a master car mechanic and owner of a BMW motorcycle dealership and a Toyota car contract workshop in Erding and lives in Neufinsing . He is married and has one daughter.
