Wolfgang Weber (historian, 1950)

Wolfgang Eduard Josef Weber (born July 28, 1950 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German historian . He is director and executive scientific secretary of the Institute for European Cultural History at the University of Augsburg and Professor of Modern and Contemporary History, especially European Cultural History.

Life

In Kappel in Freiburg for elementary school and in Freiburg on the Humanistic Berthold-Gymnasium gone, put Weber 1970, the High School and studied from 1972 history, political science and social science at the after military service, Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg . In 2009 Weber was awarded the Pro Suebia Prize in Ottobeuren for his initiative and successful third-party funding in favor of the development of a scientific edition of the Augsburg Chronicle by Georg Kölderer (around 1600) . The Dr. Eugen Liedl Foundation for the Promotion of Research into the Bavarian-Swabian State History, endowed with a total of 20,000 euros, goes in equal parts to an outstanding scientific and an outstanding artistic achievement.

Wolfgang EJ Weber, who published under the name of Wolfgang Weber until 2000, has been a specialist in the social and cultural history of 19th and 20th century German history since his doctoral thesis . Since completing his habilitation thesis, he has dealt with the history of political ideas of the 17th century from various perspectives, especially the Latin prints in this field. Further research areas are the cultural history of princes and dynasties, the theories and methods of historical studies, university history and the history of the Middle East conflict.
