Prince Wolfgang Ernst III. zu Isenburg and Büdingen (born July 25, 1798 in Offenbach am Main , † October 29, 1866 in Birstein ) was a German civil registrar .

Life

The son of the last ruling prince in the Principality of Isenburg , Carl von Isenburg-Birstein (1766–1820), and his wife Charlotte Auguste Wilhelmine, nee. Countess of Erbach-Erbach (1777–1846).

In 1814, Wolfgang Ernst was placed under the care of his uncle, who was major general at Mainz fortress, to acquire military knowledge . From 1816 to 1818 he stayed with his tutor Johann Elias Mieg (1770–1842) and his brother Viktor Alexander in Lausanne , from 1818 he studied political science at the University of Göttingen .

He was of Protestant denomination and married Countess Adelheid zu Erbach-Fürstenau on January 30, 1827 at Fürstenau Castle . The marriage remained childless. His nephew Karl zu Isenburg-Birstein became heir to the rulership .

In 1820 he succeeded him in the class rule. From 1823 to 1849 and again from 1856 to 1866 he was a member of the First Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in Darmstadt. He did not take part in the first state parliament and only took his deputy oath on August 17, 1823 . At the 5th Landtag (1832/33) he was represented by his brother Viktor zu Isenburg and Büdingen (1802–1843). From 1831 to 1866 he was also a hereditary member of the Kurhessische estates assembly in Kassel. After the March Revolution , this virile vote was dropped .
