Wolfgang Fasching
Wolfgang Fasching (born August 11, 1967 in Bad Radkersburg , Austria ) is an Austrian extreme athlete .
Career
After a moderately successful amateur cycling career, in which he won, among other things, the Straßengler Cycling Day, Fasching decided to switch to extreme sports. It was inspired by the success of Franz Spilauer in the Race Across America , a cycling race from the west coast of the United States to the east coast.
He is a three-time RAAM winner (1997, 2000, 2002); in total he has participated eight times in 12 years (1996–2007) and landed on the podium every time.
In May 2001, Fasching was the 13th Austrian to climb Mount Everest .
When crossing Europe from Gibraltar to the North Cape on August 9, 2019 in Liège , Belgium, a delivery van hit his support vehicle from behind, which was then pushed into him. With abrasions, he continued the 5656-kilometer tour the next morning with a spare wheel, a new pace car and - as was already planned - a new crew. After 10 days, 20 hours and 47 minutes, he reached the North Cape in record time.
Born in Styria, he currently lives in Neukirchen near Lambach .
