Wolfgang Geier (* 1966 in Kufstein ) is an Austrian television and radio journalist . On May 25, 2018 he was appointed editor-in-chief of ORF eins .

Life

Wolfgang Geier studied German and history at the University of Innsbruck , graduating in 1990.

He has worked as a journalist since 1989, and for ORF since 1996 , where he began his work at the ORF regional studio in Tyrol . In 1999 he moved to Vienna in the domestic radio policy of Austria 1 (Ö1) and in 2001 for the domestic television policy of ZIB 2 . He has been presenting the ORF press hour since 2005, and has been the editor of Zeit im Bild since 2006 . From 2009 to 2013 he reported as the foreign correspondent for ORF from Washington, DC , and then became deputy head of the domestic affairs department on ORF television under the head of department Hans Bürger .

On May 25, 2018, he was appointed editor-in-chief of ORF eins by ORF General Director Alexander Wrabetz . He took over these functions after the separation of the editorial offices in ORF one and ORF 2 on June 11, 2018. Matthias Schrom was appointed editor-in-chief of ORF 2 . Both succeeded Fritz Dittlbacher , who until then was editor-in-chief of the only editorial team for both ORF television stations.
