Fritz Dittlbacher

Fritz Dittlbacher (born March 16, 1963 in Kirchdorf / Krems ) is an Austrian journalist . He was editor-in-chief of ORF television from October 20, 2010 until this post was deleted without replacement by General Director Wrabetz in May 2018 .

Life

Dittlbacher attended the technical college in Wels ( Upper Austria ), which he graduated in 1982 with the Matura for chemical industrial engineering. He then began studying history and journalism at the University of Vienna . 1990 graduation to Mag. Phil., 1992 doctorate to Dr. phil. with a dissertation on peasants' councils in the First Republic (title: “The revolution in the country”).

Shortly after graduating from high school, Dittlbacher started working as a freelancer for the Upper Austrian daily newspaper , and in 1984 he switched to the Arbeiter-Zeitung , the SPÖ's party organ at the time . After the workers newspaper was sold to the advertising entrepreneur Hans Schmid in 1989 - the SPÖ still held a minority stake - Dittlbacher was appointed head of the domestic affairs department at the age of 26. After setting the newspaper he joined in 1992 as a domestic policy -Redakteur for ORF radio, in 1996, he served as EU - correspondent in Brussels stationed.

Since 1997 Dittlbacher has been working for the time in the picture editorial team of ORF television , since 1999 as chief reporter and deputy head of the domestic affairs department. He is known to ORF viewers through numerous live broadcasts and studio analyzes and as one of the moderators of the ORF press hour .

Elmar Oberhauser criticized Dittlbacher's appointment as editor-in-chief in 2010 due to the influence of the SPÖ and was later voted out of office. Oberhauser “is proud of this election” because he defended himself against party political influences on ORF. Karlheinz Kopf called the ORF top "skin and hair subject to the SPÖ leadership".

In 2015 he starred in the feature film Thank You for Bombing alongside Erwin Steinhauer .

On May 25, 2018, Wolfgang Geier was appointed editor-in-chief of ORF Eins and Matthias Schrom was appointed editor-in-chief of ORF 2 . They took over these functions after the separation of the editorial offices in ORF one and ORF 2 on June 11, 2018.

Private

He is married to the ORF presenter Lou Lorenz-Dittlbacher and lives in Vienna. Their daughter, Dittlbacher's fourth child, was born on February 12, 2010.
