Wolfgang Grube (born September 3, 1945 ) is a German entrepreneur and basketball official .

Life

Grube actively played basketball at the 1st basketball club in Bremerhaven. From 1975 he worked for the haulage company Georg Grube GmbH, which he became owner. The business graduate expanded the company, under his leadership the disposal business areas as well as the distribution of products of several sporting goods manufacturers, including Converse and And1 , were added.

As a patron, he has been supporting basketball in the city of Bremerhaven for decades. In 1986, thanks to Grube's financial support and his management as chairman of the OSC basketball department, OSC Bremerhaven became champion of the 2nd North Basketball League , but for economic reasons decided not to advance to the basketball league . Grube is credited with having decisively advanced the development of professional basketball in Bremerhaven.

In January 2018 he took over the position of managing director at the operating company of Eisbären Bremerhaven , after having previously been a partner and long-term sponsor. From summer 2018, Grube managed the fortunes together with his son Mark, who was henceforth responsible for finance, as well as real estate entrepreneur Marc Bergmann, who joined as deputy managing director. Through the mediation of John Treloar , Grube established a cooperation between the polar bears and the American DME Sports Academy from Florida  in 2018 and brought the academy on board as a partner in the polar bear operating company. At the end of the 2018/19 season, the polar bears were relegated to the top German league after 14 years of membership in the Bundesliga. Grube, who described the team as his life's work, then accused EWE Baskets Oldenburg of distorting the competition, as Oldenburg's defeat against Bremerhaven's relegation competitor Crailsheim on the last match day contributed to the polar bears slipping to a relegation zone and the Lower Saxony, among other things, supplementary players in this encounter had brought into use. In August 2019, Grube gave up his position as Eisbären managing director, but remained a partner. He announced in summer 2020 that he would be transferring his shares as a partner.
