Nikos Ch. Chourmouziadis

Nikos Ch. Chourmouziadis , Greek Νίκος Χ. Χουρμουζιάδης (* 1930 in Thessaloniki ; † October 19, 2013 ) was a Greek Graecist and director .

Chourmouziadis studied philology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in the Department of Classical Philology and continued his studies specializing in ancient Greek drama in London and New York . After twelve years in middle school service, in 1971 he was appointed professor in the Department of Classical Philology of the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Thessaloniki and remained in this position until 1988. In 1990 he moved to the Department of Theater Studies at the Universities of Athens and Thessaloniki and stayed there until 1998. He staged a number of plays on the experimental stage of the Τέχνη of Thessaloniki, including Brecht , Shakespeare , Chekhov , Beckett and Euripides . In addition, he staged a number of works, in particular from ancient Greek theater until 2000 in the State Theater of Northern Greece (Κρατικό Θέατρο Βορείου Ελλάδος).

Chourmouziadis worked in particular on ancient Greek drama, especially tragedy and her choir . Among the tragedians, he paid particular attention to Euripides. In addition, he has translated Albin Lesky's standard work on Greek tragedy, The Tragic Poetry of the Hellenes , into modern Greek.
