Wolfgang Kühborth

Wolfgang Kühborth (born September 10, 1924 in Heidelberg ; † January 31, 2017 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) was an entrepreneur and chairman of the board of directors and supervisory board of KSB Aktiengesellschaft .

Wolfgang Kühborth was the 1942 Notabitur and was then to 1945 combatants. After his captivity in France, he returned to Homburg in 1948 and initially studied economics and business administration at the Saarland University . After graduating from high school in 1949, he studied mechanical engineering at the TH Karlsruhe . In Karlsruhe he became a member of Corps Saxonia Karlsruhe and in 1951, as consenior, was responsible for the first class day in Karlsruhe after the Second World War. He completed his studies with a degree in engineering in 1953 and also attended the Center d'Études Industrielles in Geneva .

In 1954 he joined the family business Klein, Schanzlin & Becker (KSB) and became chairman of the supervisory board of Klein Pumpen GmbH. From 1971 to 1978 he was a member of the board of directors and spokesman for KSB AG in Frankenthal, and from 1976 he became chairman of the supervisory board of KSB AG. During this time, the establishment and expansion of production facilities in Asia and America and the takeover of the French companies Pompes Guinard (1986) and AMRI (1989) also fell. In 1986 he received his doctorate from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Mannheim and in 1987 was made an Honorary Senator of the Saarland University.

In 1964 he renounced the family inheritance from the small family and together with his father Otto Klein-Kühborth (1896–1976) transferred the assets to a charitable foundation. The KSB Foundation holds around 80 percent of the ordinary shares of KSB AG through Klein Pumpen GmbH. In 1993 Kühborth also transferred his remaining shareholder share in Klein Pumpen GmbH to the foundation.

The KSB Foundation has been awarding advancement awards to young scientists since 1999.
