Athletic career

Until 1967, Wolfgang Krahnke played for the company sports club (BSG) Motor Rochlitz and was then delegated to the regional football performance center, the FC Karl-Marx-Stadt (FCK). From 1968 he played in the FCK junior team and in 1969 was accepted into the squad of the GDR junior national team. With her he played nine internationals in the same year.

The 1.82 m tall Krahnke played his first game for the FCK league team at the age of 18 in the second main round of the GDR soccer cup in 1970 ( Dynamo Dresden II - FCK 2-0). After that, his football career was interrupted by an 18-month military service. At the beginning of the league season 1972/73 Krahnke was reported as a replacement for the retired goalkeeper Manfred Kaschel as a new addition. With 22 appearances in 26 league games, he immediately took over the role of goalkeeper. He lost this again in the following two seasons, when he was only used eleven times.

From May to November 1973 Krahnke played six international matches with the GDR junior national team.

After 25 league games in 1975/76 and only nine appearances in the following season, Krahnke was finally number one in the FCK goal from 1977/76. He was able to defend this status until the end of the 1984/85 season. For the 1985/86 season he was nominated by the FCK as a first league goalkeeper, but was no longer used. In the summer of 1986 the end of his active career was announced. Within 13 seasons he had made 254 league appearances, making him the most frequently used goalkeeper at FCK. In the ranking of all FCK players, he came eighth.
