Wolfgang Loch (born May 10, 1915 in Berlin ; † February 7, 1995 ) was a German psychoanalyst , university professor and from 1971 to 1982 the first holder of the specially established chair for psychoanalysis and psychotherapy at the University of Tübingen .

Services

Loch studied medicine from 1933 to 1938 and received his doctorate in 1939 with a pharmacological-experimental thesis at the University of Berlin. From 1939 he was used for military service and was then taken prisoner until 1947. After his return, he pursued his training to become a specialist in internal medicine as well as neurology and psychiatry. He worked for five years as a senior physician at the State Psychiatric Hospital in Berlin. He turned to psychoanalysis since 1949. From 1956 he worked and taught at the Psychosomatic Clinic of the University of Heidelberg, and from 1960 at the Sigmund Freud Institute in Frankfurt am Main. Tilmann Moser judged him that the psychotherapeutic clinic was the foundation of his knowledge, but psychoanalysis was a system of thought for him with the claim to fertilize the neighboring sciences, including philosophy. He was significantly influenced by Michael Balint and worked for Alexander Mitscherlich in Heidelberg and Frankfurt am Main . The focus of his work was on psychoanalytic theory and pathology , he wrote textbooks such as The Pathology of Psychoanalysis . (1967). He also trained teachers and social workers. He ventured into the field of the psychoanalytic theory of psychoses.

Life

In 1971, Loch was involved in founding a training center, the Stuttgart-Tübingen Psychoanalytic Working Group . From 1972 to 1975 he was chairman of the German Psychoanalytical Association (DPV) and at the same time vice-president of the International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA). From 1990 he was an honorary member of the DPV.

His successor at the Tübingen chair was Heinz Henseler . In memory of Wolfgang Loch , a foundation of its own has organized a Wolfgang Loch lecture every year in Tübingen since 2000 .
