Wolfgang Lohmann (born September 27, 1957 in Celle ) was inspector of the riot police of the federal states in the Federal Ministry of the Interior until his retirement on August 31, 2018 .

Wolfgang Lohmann was born in Celle and has three children.

Wolfgang Lohmann joined the Federal Border Guard in 1978 and held various functions in the Federal Border Guard and its successor organization, the Federal Police . He has worked as a manager at all levels of the Federal Police since 1981.

Professional background

From 1978 to 1981 he completed training for the high-level police enforcement service at the Lübeck Border Guard School. Lohmann worked from 1993 to 1996 as a consultant in the Federal Ministry of the Interior for police training and Further training, police sports, examinations and pastoral care in the BGS, before he was a consultant in the Federal Ministry of the Interior for fundamental matters of leadership and deployment as well as police public relations until 1997. He worked since 1997 as the head of the main field deployment in the Federal Border Police in Hanover (until 1999) and as a border police liaison officer in the Italian Ministry of the Interior in Rome (until 1998). Lohmann headed the planning group and the EXPO 2000 management team at BGS in 1999/2000 . As a consultant in the Federal Ministry of the Interior for fundamental and organizational matters as well as administrative modernization of the BGS, he worked from 2000 to 2002 before becoming head of the Federal Police Office in Berlin. He resigned this office when he was appointed Vice President of the Federal Police Headquarters on March 3, 2008 . In July 2012, the head of the Federal Police was replaced by Federal Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich . In August 2012 Wolfgang Lohmann was appointed inspector of the riot police of the federal states . In addition to the main task of "riot police", the inspector was assigned the areas of sport and security, training and equipment assistance for foreign police forces in cooperation with the police forces of the federal states, as well as certain tasks in crisis management. In this context, from August 2015 to January 2016, he was also head of the staff coordinating the reception of refugees and asylum seekers in the Federal Ministry of the Interior.

He retired on August 31, 2018.

In the Federal Police, Lohmann was responsible for police operations at home and abroad as well as for the strategic development and controlling of the Federal Police. With great personal commitment, he played a key role in the further development of the Federal Police in the past reform processes.

He is committed to the sustainable implementation of a management system that can be used in public administration. So he got involved z. B. in the working group “Management and Controlling in Public Institutions”, whose aim is to support and actively promote existing development approaches for result and impact-oriented management in the public sector.

Interests

Lohmann is very interested in domestic and, in particular, security issues and issues, and brings his expertise to the relevant committees. The further development of public security in a federal structure is important to him, which is why he is involved in the Public Security Future Forum.

He also worked as a lecturer at the former German University for Continuing Education (DUW) in Berlin and was a member of the advisory board at the Research Institute for Compliance, Security Management and Corporate Security (FORSI) at DUW.

With regard to the cooperation between private service providers and state security authorities, Lohmann is committed to the qualification of the staff of private security service providers, as this is an important prerequisite for successful cooperation.

In view of the increasing support for management and business processes in the police force through information technology, Lohmann is concerned with the dangers of the Internet.
