Wolfgang Nowak (politician)

Wolfgang Nowak (born June 7, 1944 in Beuthen ; † June 4, 2002 in Leipzig ) was a CDU politician and from 1990 to 2002 a member of the Saxon state parliament .

Life

After graduating from the Extended Secondary School in Saxony Lichtenstein and training as a locomotive mechanic in Engelsdorf near Leipzig he studied at the University of Transport in Dresden rail vehicle technology . He finished his studies in 1969 with a diploma. After completing his research studies, he became a Dr.-Ing. doctorate and worked from 1972 to 1975 as a research assistant and from 1975 to 1985 as a group leader at the Central Research Institute of Transport (ZFIV) in Leipzig. From 1985 to 1990 he worked as head of science at the Scientific and Technical Center of the Deutsche Reichsbahn and from 1990 to 1993 as deputy head of the central freight transport office of the Deutsche Reichsbahn and Deutsche Bundesbahn in Leipzig.

Nowak was a Roman Catholic and married to Loni Nowak. Her son Andreas (* 1975) has been a member of the state parliament and transport policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group since 2014. Wolfgang Nowak died on June 4, 2002 after a long and serious illness.

politics

Nowak joined the CDU in 1972. On May 6, 1990, Wolfgang Nowak was elected to the City Council of Leipzig. In the state elections in Saxony on October 14, 1990 , he received the most votes in his constituency and moved into the 1st Saxon state parliament as a directly elected member; likewise after the 1994 and 1999 elections. In the Saxon state parliament he was chairman of the committee for housing, construction and transport from 1990 until his death. From 2001 to 2002 he was deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group . He belonged to the Presidium of the Landtag.

Nowak tried to moderate the transition from Prime Minister Kurt Biedenkopf to Georg Milbradt within the party and factions , which, in the opinion of representatives of both camps, he succeeded at the time.
