Wolfgang Schmidt (doctor)

Wolfgang Schmidt (born June 14, 1924 in Hanover ; † 1999 ) was a German doctor and professional medical officer .

Wolfgang Schmidt spent his childhood and youth in Hanover and attended the Leibniz School there. After graduating from high school, he was called up for military service in 1941 and began studying medicine at the Air Force Medical Academy in Berlin-Waidmannslust in 1942 - interrupted by missions at the front - which he continued until 1948 at the universities of Würzburg and Göttingen. In July 1948 he passed the state medical examination in Göttingen. In 1950 he received his doctorate in medicine at the Medical Faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin, until 1954 he received further training as a doctor for pulmonary diseases at the Havelhöhe Municipal Clinic for Lung Diseases in Berlin-Spandau and at the Tuberculosis Welfare Office in Berlin-Wedding. After that, until his retirement in 1989, he was the head physician of the tuberculosis welfare office in Berlin-Wedding.

In 1950, Wolfgang Schmidt was one of the founders of the Association of Berlin Assistant Doctors (BBA), later the Berlin State Association of the Marburg Federation , and was a member of its board. From 1960 to 1971 he was the first chairman of the Marburger Bund, Landesverband Berlin. From 1963 to 1975 Wolfgang Schmidt was a member of the board of directors of the German Medical Association , from 1971 to 1975 President of the Berlin Medical Association and from 1976 to 1991 President of the German Red Cross, Landesverband Berlin.

From 1972 he was on the board of trustees or board member of the Kaiserin Friedrich Foundation for medical training.
