Wolfgang Schmitt (politician)

Wolfgang Schmitt (born April 20, 1959 in Monheim am Rhein ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ).

After attending the Konrad-Adenauer-Gymnasium Langenfeld (Rhineland) , the higher commercial school and the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Cologne , Schmitt studied history , politics and philosophy at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf .

Schmitt was a managing state board member of the Greens in North Rhine-Westphalia . He was also a member of the Association for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany and from 1984 to 1990 a member of the Presidium of the Association of Cities and Municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia .

In 1980 Schmitt became a member of the Greens. From 1982 to 1984 he was a member of the state executive, from 1990 to 1994 he was state chairman of the Greens in North Rhine-Westphalia. From 1984 to 1990 he was a member of the Langenfeld City Council. From 1994 to 1998 Schmitt sat in the German Bundestag .

Schmitt was the managing director of the German Society for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) GmbH from 2000 to 2009.
