Wolfgang Siemens (born February 4, 1945 in Pößneck , Thuringia ; † February 29, 2016 in Benidorm ) was a German painter .

Life

In 1961, Siemens began studying painting at the Cologne Werkschulen with Friedrich Vordemberge and later with Karl Marx, where he was appointed master student of Friedrich Vordemberge. Siemens is one of the well-known graduates of the Cologne factory schools .

In 1970, he took part in an exhibition at the Josef Haubrich Kunsthalle in Cologne and made him known to a wider audience. From 1969 to 1979 Siemens also taught as an art teacher at a high school in Cologne. From 1979 he turned exclusively to painting. In 1980 he had a solo exhibition in New York . Until 1984 he lived with short breaks in Paris , southern France and Morocco .

The Federal Association of Visual Artists organized a retrospective exhibition for him in 1984 . In 1986, Siemens got into a personal and artistic crisis. The change in the milieu and the death of his father made him doubt the meaning of painting and art. He destroyed all paintings in his possession.

From 1990 Siemens turned back to painting. Since then, his paintings and gouaches have been created slowly and in bursts . He last lived in Pulheim .

Siemens work "Freundinnen" (1972) can be borrowed from the Artothek Cologne - Room for Young Art.
