Thiel's sculpture developed from small sculptures made of terracotta and plaster of paris to large-format folding works made of steel to linear, sometimes monumental works that only reveal the silhouette of the figurative motif. Since 1996, Thiel has been working increasingly again as a stage and costume designer , including decorating the opera Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti at the Putbus opera festival . This was followed by equipment and stage designs for Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and works by other composers.
