Wolfgang Trautwein (diplomat)

Wolfgang Trautwein (* 1946 ) is a German diplomat . From September 2006 to August 2008 he was the German ambassador to Sweden .

Life

Trautwein spent his childhood in the Rhineland and went to school in Düsseldorf . He then studied law in Saarbrücken and London and received his doctorate . After a brief stint as a lawyer, he joined the diplomatic service in 1976 . 1978/79 he was parliamentary and cabinet advisor in the Foreign Office in Bonn, then until 1983 political advisor at the German UN agency in New York City . Further consultancy activities followed before he became head of the legal and consular department of the German embassy in London in 1992 . In 1997, Trautwein took over the management of the policy department of the UN Department of the Foreign Office. In 2001 he became the Commissioner for Near and Middle Eastern Policy, and in 2003 he was Deputy Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic to the United Nations. From 2006 to 2008 he was the German ambassador to Sweden.

Trautwein is married and has three children.
