Wolfgang Viereck

Wolfgang Viereck (born September 4, 1937 in Berlin ; † September 4, 2018 ) was a German Anglicist .

Life

He studied English, French and political science at the University of Marburg . After receiving his doctorate in 1966 at the University of Hamburg and habilitation in 1970 at the University of Mainz , he became full professor for English linguistics at the University of Graz in 1973 . In 1978 he moved to the comprehensive university (from 1979 university) Bamberg , where he was the first holder of the chair for English linguistics and medieval studies. He held this position until his retirement in September 2005. He was a member of the Academia Europaea (since 2003) and the Royal Society of Sciences in Uppsala (since 2007) and has received several honorary doctorates.
