Wolfgang Voelkner
Wolfgang Voelkner (born February 11, 1933 in Burg (near Magdeburg) ) is a German engineer and university professor .
Life
After elementary school and the state cathedral high school in Merseburg / Saale Wolfgang Voelkner went in 1951 as an intern in the chemical works Buna . In 1952 he began studying mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Dresden (at that time the Technical University of Dresden). From 1958 to 1968 Wolfgang Voelkner was a research assistant in the aerospace faculty, chair for engine technology , later in the technology faculty, chair for metal forming .
In 1968 the doctorate to Dr.-Ing. with the topic "Stress and deformation determination during compression molding with burrs". From 1969 to 1970, Wolfgang Voelkner headed the Institute for Forming Technology at the TU Dresden before moving to the Research Center for Forming Technology in Zwickau as head of department .
In 1974 he completed his habilitation and went back to the TU Dresden as a university lecturer for forming technology. When he was appointed full professor , he took over the chair for manufacturing technology / forming processes and tools from 1979 to 1992, which was transferred to the professorship for primary forming and forming technology in 1993, which he headed until his retirement in 1999.
From 1986 to 1988 Wolfgang Voelkner was acting head of the production design department. In 1990 he took over the management of the then section for production technology and machine tools , which was transferred to the Institute Association for Production Technology and Machine Tools and whose spokesman he was until the Institute for Production Technology was founded.
From 1992 to 1994 Wolfgang Voelkner was Vice Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and from 1991 to 1995 Spokesman for the CIM Technology Transfer Center at the TU Dresden.
Wolfgang Voelkner now lives in Dresden and works in an advisory capacity at the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology .
Awards
For outstanding achievements in the field of sheet metal forming, Wolfgang Voelkner was awarded the Erich Siebel commemorative coin by the European Research Association for Sheet Metal Processing eV (EFB) on the occasion of the EFB Colloquium 2001 . The research company awards this highest personal award in the field of materials testing in Germany to personalities from science and industry who have distinguished themselves through creative achievements in the sense of Erich Siebel's life's work. Wolfgang Voelkner received the honor in particular for his efforts to maintain and expand the scientific competence of the Chair for Forming and Forming Technology at the Institute for Production Technology of the Technical University of Dresden after the reunification of the two German states.
Wolfgang Voelkner was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2005 for his scientific and technical life's work as well as his achievements in the restructuring of the TU Dresden after the peaceful revolution in autumn 1989. In the area of forming technology, his field of work included the design of manufacturing processes, tools and computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM). The success of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, which was reorganized after reunification, and the CIM Technology Transfer Center of the TU Dresden (CIMTT) are largely based on his work.
