Wolfgang Vogel (mathematician)

Wolfgang Vogel (born February 8, 1940 in Bremen ; † October 2, 1996 in Palmerston North , New Zealand ) was a German mathematician .

Wolfgang Vogel was one of the leading scientists in the field of commutative algebra and algebraic geometry .

After studying, doing a doctorate and habilitation at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and then several subsequent visiting professorships from 1973 to 1975, he was Professor of Pure Mathematics and headed the Algebra and Geometry Science Department at the Mathematics Section of the University of Halle. From 1993 to 1996 he was appointed professor of pure mathematics at Massey University in Palmerston North, New Zealand, where he also died.
