Wolfgang Weiß (born April 11, 1957 in Osterhofen ) is a German church historian .

Life

From 1979, Weiß studied theology and history in Passau and Würzburg . From 1986 he worked at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg as a research associate in the Church and Rural Society project in Main Franconia from the Reformation to the most recent, funded by the German Research Foundation . From 1988 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Historical Theology at the University of Würzburg. In the doctoral thesis published in 1993 Church in the upheaval of secularization. Since August 1999 he has been a professor of Franconian church history and recent church history at the University of Würzburg.

In March 2017 he received the Papal Knightly Order of St. Sylvester ( New Year's Eve Order ).
