Wolfger vonprüfunging († after 1173) was a monk, librarian and scholar in the convent .

Life

With Abt I. Erbo (1121-1163) was awarded in 1121 the Bavarian Benedictine Prüfening (in Regensburg ) a monk from St. Georgen in the Black Forest , the favorite pupil of the local abbot Theoger (1088-1119). Under Erbo, Wolfger Mönch was now also the librarian of the local monastic community, his work is visible from 1130.

Wolfger himself came from Bamberg , where he received his training and probably became a monk on the Michelsberg . He is said to have made a library catalog around the middle of the 12th century , as well as to have continued theprüfungingen annals. He was a charterer for checking and was involved in a transcription of the Liber Algorismi , one of the earliest instructions on the use of Arabic numerals including the zero written in Christian Europe . Wolfger probably wrote the Vita Ottonis between 1140 and 1146 , the life description of the holy bishop Otto I of Bamberg (1102–1139), a contender for church reform, and next to it - but this is controversial - also the Vita Theogeri , which he is following the memories of his abbot Erbo. In addition, connections to Bamberg were still preserved, for example in 1151/52, when Wolfger carried out office activities for the then Bamberg Bishop Eberhard II (1146–1172). Wolfger died after 1173. It remains to be mentioned that under Abbot Erbo, Prüfing experienced a cultural and economic boom and was a reform center for some monasteries - such as Münchsmünster , Banz , Asbach , Göttweig or Georgenberg . Wolfger has also made his contribution.
