Wolfram Bickerich

Wolfram Bickerich (born September 30, 1942 in Posen ) is a German journalist and author.

life and work

He was born in 1942 as the fourth child of Pastor Wolfgang Bickerich. In 1961 he passed the Abitur at the humanistic Wilhelm-Dörpfeld-Gymnasium in Wuppertal, at the same time as Graecum and Hebraicum. He then studied political science and history in Tübingen, Bonn and Berlin (FU). After completing his internship in 1968, he became a business editor at dpa Munich. From 1971 to 1974 he was editor for economics and finance at dpa Bonn. During the 1972 Olympic Games he was a special political correspondent in Munich; Since then, and because of the terrorist attack on the Israeli Olympic team , there was close acquaintance with the then Federal Minister of the Interior, Hans-Dietrich Genscher .

From 1974 to 1980 he was editor for economics, currency and finances in the editorial agency Bonn of the Spiegel with frequent trips to conferences in Washington, Brussels, Paris, Rome and Tokyo.

Since January 1st, 1980 he was head of the DI department for politics in Bonn and East Berlin in Hamburg and was responsible for reporting on the development of unity; At that time Spiegel discussions with Wolfgang Schäuble , Lothar de Maizière , Manfred Stolpe , Bärbel Bohley , Günter Mittag , Egon Krenz , Stefan Heym , Stephan Hermlin etc. From 1994 to 2007 editor for special tasks at Spiegel and “Spiegel spezial”. Since 1990 Bickerich has been married to the novelist and children's book author Brigitte Blobel . He met her on a trip to which Genscher had invited him to Central American Costa Rica. Since 1999 they have mostly been living on their renovated farm in the middle of Mallorca, in Hamburg or in South Africa.

In October 1990 he was diagnosed with MS . He has been retired since 2007.
