Wolfram Funk

Wolfram Funk (born August 5, 1938 in Breslau ) is a German mechanical engineer . He was a professor at the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg and founder of the "Tank Technology Colloquium".

Life

Funk was born in what was then the Silesian capital, Wroclaw. He studied mechanical engineering ( graduate engineer ) and was awarded a Dr.-Ing. In 1968 at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt with the dissertation The Influence of Fretting Corrosion on the Durability of Composed Machine Elements . PhD.

He then worked in private industry from 1968 to 1975. From 1975 to 2003 he held the full professorship for machine elements and gear technology in the mechanical engineering department at the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg and was head of the institute for construction and manufacturing technology there. From 1978 to 1983 he was Vice President of the Federal Armed Forces University and from 1986 to 1987 and 1997 spokesman for the mechanical engineering department. In 1978 he founded the "Panzertechnische Kolloquium" (PTK), which in 2012 was held for the 36th time at the university.

Funk was President of the Joachim Jungius Society of Sciences, today's Academy of Sciences in Hamburg (senior member) and chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board for the award of the Werner Hahlweg Prize . He is a member of the board of trustees of the Carl Cranz Society and a member of the executive committee of the German Society for Defense Technology .

In 2013, the Wolfram Funk Prize, endowed with 2,000 euros, was awarded for the first time for outstanding academic performance.
