history

The first written mention of the Wolfsburg settlement dates from 1247. A castle complex in the “Alte Wolfsburg” corridor could not be documented. Around 1500 the Lords of Reckrodt had acquired extensive property and income in the Eltetal. They sat as lords of the castle on the nearby Brandenburg near Lauchröden . From 1520 they were in financial difficulties and had to cede their properties in Unkeroda, Neuenhof , Epichnellen , Wolfsburg and Sättelstädt step by step to the electoral administration. Until the 17th century, the Wolfsberg settlement consisted only of the manor or manor, which remained in changing ownership through further pledging. In 1827, 98 people lived in Wolfsburg, most of whom lived from agriculture and forestry. Copper ores were also discovered and mined at Knieberg , which is why miners also settled on the outskirts of Wolfsburg.
