The cloud in heraldry occurs in two forms in or above the coat of arms . It can be a herald image or a coat of arms . In the form of a cloud mist , it is then counted among the heraldic tinctures .

Herald image

As a rule, a semicircle is shown that is slightly curved and merges into the next semicircle. The preferred color in silver is the blue cloud. Here she is in the form of a popular herald image .

Combining them with other heraldic images creates new forms. The name of the figure then has the "prefix" clouds. The most important figures are Wolkenfeh , the clouds aboard , the cloud interface , the clouds Cross , the clouds strip as narrow clouds beams , or the clouds pile to name.

The cloud border is often to be found in the municipal coats of arms of southwest Germany; here he refers to a former affiliation to the dominion of the princes of Fürstenberg .

Heraldic figure

The other form of representation in the coat of arms is based on the natural cloud and is rare as a coat of arms figure . Occasionally one to three lightning bolts flash from the cloud , which are also stylized as a zigzag line with an arrowhead, or a saint stands on a floating cloud in the shield ( Baryssau ) or in the upper coat of arms.
