The woolly wool leaf ( Eriophyllum lanatum ), also known as the large wool leaf , is a species of plant from the daisy family (Asteraceae). The species is very rich in shape, over 10 varieties have been described so far.
features
The woolly wool leaf is a perennial herbaceous plant or a half or dwarf shrub. It is usually 15 to 30, rarely up to 100 centimeters in size. The plant is prostrate, ascending, bushy branched and woolly hairy. The stem leaves are 1 to 8 inches long and three to five parts pinnately cut. In Eriophyllum lanatum subsp. integrifolium (Hook.) Smiley, they are whole and whole. The flower heads have a diameter of 4 centimeters. The flowers are yellow. The mostly 8, rarely up to 13 ray-flowers are 6 to 20 millimeters long and elliptical. The bracts are single row, ovate, pointed, 5 to 12 millimeters long and overlap each other.
The flowering period extends from June to August.
Occurrence
The species occurs in southwest Canada and in the western USA to western Montana, Wyoming and Nevada. It grows in open, dry locations at altitudes of up to 4000 meters. In Germany, the woolly wool sheet is naturalized locally as a neophyte .
use
The woolly wool leaf is rarely used as an ornamental plant for rock gardens and south embankments. It has been in culture since at least 1826.
