The Wollongong Showground ( officially WIN Stadium by sponsorship agreement since 1997 ) is a rugby and soccer stadium in the Australian city of Wollongong , New South Wales . The facility is located directly behind the beach on the Tasman Sea and was officially opened in 1911. From 1982 to 1998 the Illawarra Steelers ( Rugby League ) played their home games there. Today it is the home of the rugby league club St. George Illawarra Dragons and the South Coast Wolves football club of the New South Wales Premier League (NPL NSW). There were also pre-season games of the Australian A-League football league in the stadium. In 2012 sa stadium received a main grandstand on the west side. Since then it has held 23,000 spectators. Sponsor name WIN Stadium goes on WIN Television ( W ollongong I llawarra N back ew South Wales Television).
