Wolmar Freiherr Wrangel af Lindeberg (* 1641 ; † 1675 ) was a Swedish baron and soldier from the Wrangel family . He was the half-brother of Reich Marshal Carl Gustav Wrangel . Wolmar was married to Kristina af Vasaborg , the daughter of Gustav Gustavson , an illegitimate son of Gustav II Adolf .

Life

Wrangel began his military service at a young age. In the 1650s he took part in a campaign against Denmark under Karl X. Gustav as Rittmeister . In 1653 he and his siblings, including the Swedish general Johann Moritz Wrangel (1616–1665), were raised to the status of Swedish baron as Wrangel af Lindeberg . In the time when Charles XI. was underage, Wrangel became a direct employee of the royal family. In 1665 he became a colonel in a regiment on horseback with which he took part in a campaign against Bremen . In 1667 he was appointed major general.

In the Swedish-Brandenburg War in 1674 he served as lieutenant general together with his half-brother, who had been Reichsmarschall since 1664. In this war Wolmar Wrangel was the third person in the ranking after the Reichsmarschall and Field Marshal Conrad Mardefelt . Since both the Reichsmarschall and Conrad Mardefelt could not carry out their position due to illness, Wolmar Wrangel was in fact the commander in chief of the Swedish troops that were defeated in the Battle of Fehrbellin in 1675 .
