Volodymyr Dmytrowytsch Lytvynow (born April 16, 1936 in Cherkaske , Donetsk Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian translator , philosopher and cultural scientist .
Life
Volodymyr Lytvynow was born in the Donbas . After completing his studies in classical philology at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv , he worked as a teacher at the Nikolai Gogol State University in Nizhyn between 1963 and 1980 . In 1974 he received his doctorate . From 1980 he worked at the Hryhorij Skovoroda Philosophical Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Kiev . Between 1991 and 2010 he worked as a Latin professor at the Kiev-Mohyla Academy . He is a member of the National Association of Writers of Ukraine . In 2011 he was nominated for the Taras Shevchenko Prize . He translated works by Marcus Tullius Cicero , Erasmus von Rotterdam , Baruch de Spinoza , Stanisław Orzechowski and Iwan Dombrowskyj into Ukrainian for the first time . He translates from German , Polish and Latin into Ukrainian . He is the author of a Ukrainian-Latin dictionary. In his works he analyzed the Ukrainian Age of Enlightenment.
