Wolter Kroes (born December 24, 1968 in Wormerveer , North Holland) is a Dutch pop singer who has been known in his home country for light music in Dutch since the mid-1990s.

Career

Kroe's first contact with music was a small drum that he had received as a gift from the jazz drummer Jan Keizer from Volendam . Following the advice of his parents, he took singing lessons from Aleida van Dongen , the mother of cabaret artist Lenette van Dongen, from the age of 16 .

Four years later he won a nationwide talent competition in 1988 with an interpretation of Engelbert Humperdinck's hit Spanish Eyes at the Tendance disco in Wormerveer, and from then on began to concentrate on a career as a singer. In 1989 Telstar Kroes' debut single Ik mis je elke dag een beetje meer was released by the record company . A flop. His second single Walking on the Moon , which was created in collaboration with Peter de Wijn in 1990 , was not a success either.

It wasn't until 1995, after he was signed by Willem van Kooten's record label Red Bullet , that the breakthrough came. With the single Laat me los , written by Theun de Winter , he made it into the Nederlandse Top 40 for the first time in the summer of 1995 . Numerous radio and television appearances followed, after which his debut album, released a year earlier, also entered the charts.

In 1997, Kroes released the follow-up album De wereld in , which he recorded with a number of experienced studio musicians, including drummer Ton Dijkman , saxophone player Kees ten Dam and guitarist Rob Winter . But only one of the five singles released, the song Bolero , was a minor hit.

This was followed by various appearances in major television shows such as the State Lottery Show , Barend en Van Dorp and Koffietijd . In November 2002 he presented his fourth album 24 uur per dag with a concert at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam . In the spring of 2004 he appeared there again as part of the Concert des Levens in honor of Johnny Hoes , in the autumn of the same year he sang in front of 48,000 spectators at the farewell concert of the recently deceased singer André Hazes in the Amsterdam Arena . In early 2005 he gave two sold out concerts at the Ahoy event center in Rotterdam . With the recorded DVD Live in Ahoy , Kroes landed his first number one success in the Dutch DVD Music Top 30.

In September 2007 he made it into the top ten of the Dutch single charts for the first time with the single Niet normaal . But he had his biggest hit in 2008. In 2006 the party band Santa Rosa had rewritten the Cologne carnival hit Viva Colonia der Höhner to Viva Hollandia and thus had a smaller hit. On the occasion of the European Football Championship in 2008 , Kroes re-recorded the mood hit and in June 2008 it was number 1 in the charts.

Kroes has been married to Tessa Dijkstra since June 1, 2007. The wedding was broadcast exclusively on the Dutch television channel SBS 6 as part of the Shownieuws program. They each brought two children into the marriage from previous relationships. Their son is called Thomas Valentijn.
