Wormerveer is a village that was an independent municipality in the province of North Holland until 1974 . Now it is part of the municipality of Zaanstad with 11,795 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).
The place name indicates a ferry connection over the Zaan to Wormer .
Wormerveer is best known for windmills that were used to press oil. To this day there is an oil industry in Wormerveer, which gave the inhabitants of the place the nickname smooth-eared .
There used to be a Göpel and a grocery store in Wormerveer , but these were brought to the museum village in Arnhem in 1926/1927 .

Rail connections
On November 1, 1869, Wormerveer was connected to the Dutch railway network. The station is on the railway line between Uitgeest and Amsterdam . Four trains run every hour in each direction, only two at low traffic times in the late evening and sometimes on weekends.
