Jaap Boot

Jaap Boot (actually: Jan Jacobus Boot ; born March 1, 1903 in Wormerveer , † June 14, 1986 in Dordrecht ) was a Dutch athlete .

Boot traveled to Paris for the 1924 Olympic Games as the holder of the Dutch record in the long jump . His national record of 7.06 meters would have meant fifth place at the Games, with his 6.86 meters he was eighth. Four days after the long jump competition, the 4 x 100 meter relay was on the program. In the first run, the British relay around individual Olympic champion Harold Abrahams set a world record with 42.0 seconds. Boot, Harry Broos , Jan de Vries and Marinus van den Berge set this world record in the second run . In the final, the Americans won with 41.0 seconds, ahead of the British with 41.2 seconds and the Dutch with 41.8 seconds.

Four years later Boot took part in the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam , but was eliminated over 100 m in the run-up. Boot was national champion in the long jump in 1923, 1924, 1932 and 1933, the longest jump of his career he achieved in 1932 with 7.24 meters.
