Worldvision Enterprises, Inc. was a US film distribution company originally founded as ABC Films , a subsidiary of ABC Television Network . The company mainly sold third-party productions.

history

The company was founded in 1957 by the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) as ABC Films . In 1971 ABC Films was split off because of the monopoly legislation. In 1973 it was renamed Worldvision Enterprises .

In the home video section they published Hanna Barbera titles and a series by Jack Nicklaus called Golf My Way .

The video section grew particularly under Taft Broadcasting in 1978. In 1988, Great American Broadcasting sold Taft's successor Worldvision to Aaron Spelling's Spelling Entertainment Group . Shortly thereafter, Spelling incorporated Worldvision into Republic Pictures ; the Spelling Entertainment Group itself was taken over by Viacom in 1995. But as a sales division it existed until 1999, the same year that Viacom announced the acquisition of its former parent company, CBS Corporation . These mergers allowed Viacom, which later renamed itself CBS Corporation, to grow into one of the largest media companies in the world.

Worldvision and World Vision

After World Vision International sued Worldvision for trademark rights, the two agreed that Worldvision could continue to use the name from 1974, but had to use the note "Not affiliated with World Vision International, a religious and charitable organization."
