Vsevolod Abramovich ( Russ. : Всеволод Михайлович Абрамович * July 29 . Jul / 10. August  1890 . Greg in Odessa , Russian Empire ; † 24. April 1913 in Berlin-Britz , German Empire ) was a Russian aviator and flight instructor and Grandson of the Yiddish writer Mendele Moicher Sforim . Abramowitsch was born in Odessa and went to Germany after school to study in Charlottenburg at the Technical University thereto study. During this time he was also interested in aviation, took flight lessons and obtained his pilot's license in 1911. He was the main test pilot for the German branch of the Wright brothers' company , the "Flugmaschinen Wright", and undertook a number of flights on the airfield in Johannisthal . The specialist knowledge he gained in the process enabled him to build his own aircraft in 1912, which he flew in several stages to Saint Petersburg , where the machine took part in a competition for several military aircraft. In the same year he broke the altitude record for airplanes by ascending to 2100 meters, as well as the long-term record for transporting four passengers in a flight of 46 minutes and 57 seconds.

Abramowitsch died after his plane crashed on April 24, 1913 at the Johannisthal airfield on the same day in the Berlin-Britz district hospital due to serious injuries. The aircraft was piloted by his girlfriend, Princess Yevgenia Michailowna Schachowskaja , who had a German license since the previous year. The princess was only slightly injured.

Abramovich was buried in the Nicholas Cemetery in Saint Petersburg .

A street not far from the old airfield is named after Abramovich.
