Wulfens Mannsschild ( Androsace wulfeniana ) is a species of the genus Mannsschild ( Androsace ) in the family of Primrose (Primulaceae).

features

Wulfens Mannsschild is a perennial , low plant that grows in loose cushions. The leaves are arranged in dense, half-open to spreading rosettes. They are 4 to 7 millimeters long, somewhat fleshy, pointed, lanceolate, weakly keeled and covered with three to five-pointed star hairs.

The flowers are solitary and arise from the leaf axils of the uppermost rosettes. They tower above the leaves. The flower stalks are 4 to 12 millimeters long and double the length of the leaves. The calyx is 4 to 5 millimeters long, narrowly bell-shaped and hardly divided up to the middle with keeled and triangular calyx tips. The crown is 10 to 12 millimeters wide, dark pink in color and has a yellow throat. The corolla tube is just as long as the calyx lobes. The corolla lobes are slightly edged or trimmed.

The flowering period extends from June to July.

Occurrence

Wolfen's Mannsschild is endemic to the Eastern Alps . This species grows on lime-poor soils in stony lawns, on rocks and on rubble in the alpine zone at altitudes of 2000 to 2600 meters. It is rare.

Locations and distribution in Central Europe

Wulfens Mannsschild needs a lime-free or lime-free subsurface, which can be quite dry and quite often only briefly covered by snow.

It colonizes stony alpine lawns, coarse debris rich in fine earth and crevices, even in places that are exposed to wind.

It is rare in Central Europe; it occurs exclusively in the southern Alps between the Valtellina and the Gurktal Alps as well as the Lungau. He prefers heights of about 2000 to 2500 m.
